JAVIER GUADARRAMA SEMBLANCE
Born in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico, Javier Guadarrama attended the Fine Arts Regional Institute at Cuernavaca (IRBAC), Morelos from 1983 to 1985. Later he attended the National School of Fine Arts (National Autonomus University of Mexico) from 1985 to 1988 where he received a BFA degree. In 1989 he began collaborating as a Print Research Department Carlos Olachea assistant at the same university. Since 1991 he became part of the academic staff of the painting department.
To date, he has presented his work in up to sixty group exhibitions in Mexico, Spain, Peru, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Belice and US and twenty solo exhibitions in Mexico and US. His artwork has been presented by writers, visual artists and art critics, among others, Gonzalo Vélez, Carlos Blas Galindo, Mariano Rivera Velázquez, Conrado Tostado, Jaime Moreno Villareal y Luis Carlos Emerich.He has been awarded in several national competitions, both in painting and print contests (He has been awarded four graphic and two painting honorific mentions) with 6 honorific mentions and 3 Aquisition painting awards at the III Painting Biennal of the National Intitute of Nutrition Salvador Zubirán in 2000 and October Salon, Gran Prix Omnilife 2001, Guadalajara, Jal. A two time recipient of a Young Creators grant from the NationalFund for Culture and Arts and a production residency at the University of Colorado in Boulder in 2004, he has been granted a National Fund for Culture and the Arts in Mexico SNCA-FONCA fellowship 2012 -2014.
In 2012 the National Fund for Culture and Arts published Una cierta mirada al mar (A certain view at the sea) that gathers his recent work of seascape paintings. Also in 2013 the UNAM published Javier Guadarrama, FAD Professors, a series of small format paintings presented by Jaime Moreno Villareal.
