Mexico City, 1964. Obtained Bachelors Degrees from various universities: ENPEG, La Esmeralda, and the Mexican Institute of Arts (INBA); as well as a Masters Degree in Visual Arts at the UNAM and a Masters Degree in Applied Museography at the Mexican Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). His work has been exhibited in 21 Solo Shows and over 50 collective Shows, in Mexico and abroad. A member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Artes/ FONCA - México.
Platas’ work has entered different competitions, among others the International Biennale for Miniature Graphic 2015 (Alexandria, Egipt); III Trienal Havirov 2002, Czech Republic; Qingdao International Print Biennial, 2000, China and the Salón de la Estampa at the Mexican Print Museum.
José Antonio Platas was chosen by the ITI-UNESCO to illustrate the preface for the International Day of Dance 1997.
In June 2008, one of José Antonio Platas’ prints was part of the contents in the Time Capsule 2008, deposited in the West Tower of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City.
